- In another bowl using a wooden spoon, lightly beat together butter and sugar until combined. Beat in the egg and vanilla until fully incorporated and lastly stir in the buttermilk
- Mix the dry mixture into the wet mixture and bring the dough together by lightly kneading it on a floured surface. If too wet, add more flour as needed (sometimes you'll need a lot more flour than you anticipated - that should not alarm you). Cover dough and let rest for 30 minutes
- Once rested, flour your counter top and roll the dough flat but not too thin. Using a pizza cutter cut it into squares as seen in the image
- Heat enough oil for deep frying oil on medium heat until the tip of a wooden spoon sizzles when dipped into it. Deep fry the dough squares for 3 minutes of each side or until golden brown. Drain and cool on a paper towel
