A crumble is a dish that can be made in a sweet or savoury version, although the sweet version is much more common. Crumble is a classic pudding you can enjoy all year, from comforting apple & blackberry crumble to modern twists like peanut butter berry crisp. From earlier crymble, crimble, from Middle English *crymblen, kremelen, from Old English *crymlan ("to crumble"), from *crymel ("a small crumb; crumble"), diminutive of Old English cruma ("crumb"), equivalent to crumb +‎ -le (diminutive suffix).

To get started with this particular recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can cook crumble using 6 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.

The ingredients needed to make Crumble:
  1. Suitable fruit (I prefer apples (4) or rhubarb (8 sticks)or bilberries (500 g)
  2. 150 g flour
  3. 150 g sugar
  4. 100 g butter
  5. 1 tbsp sugar
  6. 1 tbsp flour
Instructions to make Crumble:
  1. Cut the fruit in 1-2 cm pieces, if necessary, put in an oven tray, sprinkle some sugar and flour and mix well until evenly coated
  2. Mix flour and sugar
  3. Cut the butter in cubes and squeeze it into the flour-sugar mixture. It is important to not work the dough. It should just about form a loose ball (without spontaneously crumbling)
  4. Crumble the ball over the fruit. I prefer relatively large crumbles of ~1 cm
  5. Bake for 20 minutes at 225C (fan) or until the crumbles start to brown lightly. Turn off the heat and let cool, leaving the crumble in the heat to let the fruit soften without the crumbles browning much further
  6. Serve either hot with cold custard or vanilla ice cream, or cool with warm custard
